The Middle East and North Africa has had its most successful night of this year’s Cannes festival, bringing home six Lions in the press and cyber categories.
Once again, Y&R Dubai has led the charge, winning a print silver for its ‘Polar Bear’ (pictured), ‘Walrus’, ‘Reindeer’ and ‘Pelican’ work for Neenah Paper. The agency also walked away with two bronzes for its ‘Wolves’ campaign for Harvey Nichols.
Two other bronze Lions were won by Elephant Cairo and TBWA\Raad for Lika Gum’s ‘Out of this world’ and The Fridge respectively.
Memac Ogilvy Dubai brought last night’s total regional tally to six after it landed its first Lion of the festival courtesy of its ‘Resize-a-room’ campaign for Ikea in the cyber category.
A delighted Komal Bedi Sohal, executive creative director at Y&R Dubai, said it was business as usual at the office despite the wins, before adding: “It’s fantastic. You know, winning is something you always hope for and it’s been awesome. Four Lions is something to be proud of.”
Reda Raad, group managing director of TBWA\Raad, added: “With six Lions won, the MENA region can be justifiably proud of one of its best ever performances at this year’s Cannes festival and the region’s work will only continue to get better. Personally, it’s been a good year in terms of creative awards for us here at TBWA\Raad with a second place at the Dubai Lynx and, so far, a second place at Cannes.”
There were no regional winners in the design category. The film, film craft, titanium and integrated shortlists will be revealed tomorrow.
Congratulations to the winners, better luck/work next time for the rest of us.
