Qtel calls creative advertising review

Qtel has called a review of its creative advertising and media accounts.

The Qatari telecommunications company confirmed that the pitch was taking place, but added that it was too early in the process for the company to comment any further.

A number of agencies are understood to be involved in the review, including incumbent Impact BBDO Qatar.

The pitch follows the review of Qtel International’s media buying and planning business earlier this year. That pitch was eventually won by Starcom Beirut, which has also picked up Asiacell and MTN recently following competitive pitches. The creative pitch is currently in the opening stage, with agencies being shortlisted following credentials presentations.

Qtel is present in 17 countries and its stated goal is to be among the top 20 telecommunications companies in the world by 2020. In 2009, the company recorded revenues of $6.6 billion and a net profit of $1.070 billion. The company made a net profit of $453 million for the first half of this year, compared with $426 million for the first half of 2009.
