MENA region off to a slow start at Cannes

Promo & activation proved to be the most fruitful of the Cannes Lions shortlists released on the first day of the festival.

Four nominations were received in the category yesterday, with DDB Dubai’s ‘Conversations’ for Al Manzil School, JWT Cairo’s ‘Fakka’ for Vodafone, JWT Dubai’s ‘Bookends’ for Kinokuniya, and Memac Ogilvy Label’s ‘Mobilising the 12th man’ all making the grade.

Y&R Dubai, FP7/DXB and JWT Riyadh also made the cut in the direct category, while there was a single shortlist in PR for Memac Ogilvy Label’s ‘Mobilising the 12th man’. There were no shortlisted pieces of work from the region in the innovation or creative effectiveness categories.

The media, mobile, outdoor and press shortlists will be released later today. The winners in creative effectiveness, direct, PR and promo & activation will be announced this evening.
