Campaign’s PR Faces to Watch 2020 – Sweta Fernandes, Account executive, GolinMENA

Age: 22

Anit Kurian, group director, GolinMENA: Sweta joined us in early 2019 for her first job in PR after a stint in journalism. Since then, she has taken to her role like a natural. She has honed her writing skills during her time as a journalist, and uses her story-telling instincts to identify, pitch, and secure stories and angles that feature multiple perspectives. Her clients love working with her, and the wider team appreciate her willingness to share information and expertise where and when needed. She has an interesting career trajectory ahead of her, and the determination and attitude to make the most of it.

Career highlights

Two years ago I began my journey in media as an assistant editor for a technology magazine, creating content for print and online. Without the continuous support from PR professionals, I would never have met my deadlines or completed my stories. This always made me wonder what it was like to work in public relations. When the opportunity presented itself, I seized it and have not looked back since. Since joining Golin MENA, I’ve had the opportunity to work with leading technology brands and have had the privilege of creating some fun campaigns for key clients. I’m glad to have found a field and workplace that embraces my quirky ideas.

Guiding principles

The principle that guides me every day is to always do the right thing in everything I do. I learned this from the greatest wizard who ever lived, Albus Dumbledore.

Dream job

My dream job would be to be a scriptwriter and write scripts fit for the big and small screens. Basically, I dream of being the next Phoebe Waller-Bridge one day (she wrote and directed Fleabag, which is the greatest TV show to ever be on screen – after Mad Men of course).

Side hustle When I’m not watching and critiquing the latest movie or TV show, I like to spend my time improving my photography skills. Mobile and digital cameras are a feat of technological advancement and make photography a breeze. One day I hope to bid adieu to my phone and camera and practise photography the old-fashioned way – through film.
