Campaign’s Digital Faces to Watch 2020 – Jan Jamil, Associate, digital, Brunswick
Age : 28
Rupert young, senior partner, Brunswick Gulf: Everyone associates digital with consumer communications. However, there is an important avenue for digital in the corporate space. It is a niche field with few practitioners. This is where Jan operates, leads and stands out. Jan has contributed to the success of major client campaigns, including advising ADCB on its three-way bank merger. Jan also hosts Brunswick College workshops and presentations to ensure clients and friends of the firm are in the know about the latest developments in the industry. For example, Jan launched our global ‘Connected Leadership’ programme here in the Gulf in 2019, hosting a series of events, including one in collaboration with Workplace by Facebook. Jan has been a key player in training our team and strengthening the team’s digital capabilities. Overall, Jan has successfully implemented our global goal of integrating and embedding digital in everything we do.
Career highlights
I started my career in 2013 with H+K Strategies right after graduating from university. I joined Brunswick in September 2017.
Below are a few of my career highlights:
Advised the region’s leading ride hailing app with the first disclosure of a cybersecurity hack in the Middle East.
Advised Stanford Medicine with their first digital outreach programme in the Gulf.
Advised ADCB on the first three-way bank merger in the Middle East.
Helped manage the social media crisis when Jay-Z’s mic cut off during his After-Race Concert performance.
Won two MEPRA awards.
Led an on-ground team for the social media coverage of F1 for three years in a row and created the #Spotted campaign that is still used today whenever there is a celebrity sighting on Yas Island.
Guiding principles
Work with a conscience (it sounds better in Arabic). This is something I always use to hear my father say and saw him apply when I was younger, so it is ingrained in my work ethic.
Dream job
To be a wedding planner or interior designer .
Side hustle
I support start-ups with their online communications strategies. A friend of mine asked for a favour, to help their friend who was looking for some social media advice regarding their new company. I obliged and quickly learned that I loved working with up-and-coming SMEs to help shape their business and communications. I learn as much from them as they do from me.
