Big Won Rankings 2014: UAE retains sixth spot for creativity

Impact BBDO Dubai ranks sixth among top agencies; Bechara Mouzannar, Fadi Yaish on top CCO, ECD lists respectively.

The Big Won Rankings 2014 have placed UAE in sixth place among top countries for creativity, a position it has retained from the previous year. The UAE had 1942 points based on performance of work from the country at 32 award shows globally in 2014, trailing USA (4436 points), the UK (2905), Brazil (2434), France (2354) and Australia (2217).

Among top agencies for creativity, in the top 10 are Impact BBDO Dubai at sixth place (up from 74 in 2013), and Memac Ogilvy Dubai at tenth place (22). Also from MENA at number 20 is Leo Burnett Beirut (28). Dentsu Tokyo took top honours.

People rankings

The rankings compiled for Directory magazine factored in 1,667 agencies that won awards at the considered festivals, for 5,138 pieces of work. The professionals credited with creating them included 391 chief creative officers, 820 executive creative directors, 2,540 creative directors, 2,852 art directors and 2,494 copywriters.

Among top chief creative officers globally, in fourth place is Bechara Mouzannar of Leo Burnett MENA. The top spot is a tie between David Lubars of BBDO New York and Marcelo Reis of Leo Burnett Sao Paulo. In third place is Marcelo Serpa of Almap BBDO Sao Paulo.

Among ECDs, Fadi Yaish of Impact BBDO Dubai comes in third on the global list, behind Ben Priest/Emer Stamp/Ben Tollett of adam&eve DDB London, and Luiz Sanches of Almap BBDO Sao Paulo.

The team of Sabia Fatayri/Christopher Hunt from Memac Ogilvy Dubai is sixth on the list of top art directors. Joining them at number 10 is their colleague Sascha Kuntze.

Further, Memac Ogilvy Dubai’s Kareem Shuhaibar is ranked seventh among top copywriters.

Top campaigns

Among ‘top campaigns across media channels’, Memac Ogilvy’s ‘Autocomplete Truth’ for UN Women ranked second globally, only behind Dentsu Tokyo’s ‘Sound of Senna’ for Honda. Also from Memac Ogilvy spot is ‘Mobilising the 12th Man’ for CS Hammam-Lif by the agency’s Tunis office, in 14th spot.

Impact BBDO Dubai’s work for Commercial Insurance ‘Timmy’ emerged the top radio campaign of the year, globally.

Top networks and agencies

The top networks in the MENA region on the basis of the Big Won 2014 rankings are Impact BBDO, Leo Burnett and Memac Ogilvy, in that order. Among top agencies for creativity, Impact BBDO Dubai takes top spot, followed by Memac Ogilvy Dubai and Leo Burnett Beirut.

Globally, BBDO (and Proximity) pipped Ogilvy (and Ogilvy One) to emerge the top network of 2014 according to the Big Won numbers, reversing the one-two sequence from a year ago.

Media

Among top agencies in the world by work category (press, OOH, media etc.), the media category sees Starcom MediaVest Dubai being adjudged number one on the basis of its award wins. Starcom MediaVest also retained the top spot among media agency groups in the Big Won rankings for 2014.
