Campaign’s Digital Faces to Watch 2020 – Shenaaz Saibulla, Social media senior account manager, Merkle

Age: 25

Rudy Banholzer, managing director, Merkle MENA: Over the three years I have been working with her, Shenaaz has demonstrated her passion, focus for detail and, most of all, dedication to her clients and their business. Awards are always a secondary thing – first is the business results – and in the majority of the cases that is not always recognised enough. The most important aspect is no client wants to let her go. She has won Employee of the Month at Merkle more than anyone else. Her results-driven approach and the simplification of the processes has made her the perfect account manager. She has driven small brands and turning them into the most valuable brands in their industries, such as Visit Saudi, Pioneer and Dolby.

Career highlights

I’d like to think my career in social media began at 16 when I managed the Twitter profile of a B-list celebrity. I didn’t think too much of it and went on to study Finance in university. Social media was still at its infancy, especially in this region, and wasn’t considered a “real job”. However, my passion for the dynamic landscape never died out and, on graduating, I found my way back, interning with a creative agency. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege to work with some incredible clients, strengthening their online presence and creating memorable campaigns. It’s been an exciting ride.

Guiding principles

Darwin’s theory – survival of the fittest. Change is the only constant. And this why the ever-evolving digital space appeals to me. You’ve got to learn, relearn and adapt or you miss out and become a dinosaur.

Another one is from Gary Vaynerchuck – Give with zero expectation of return. When you continuously create value without selfish intent, you’re building better relationships in the long run.

Dream job

An aerialist. I have a long way to go but would love to be able to compete professionally someday.

Side hustle

I took my first pole fitness class a couple months ago to overcome my fear of heights. It was intimidating but I was absolutely hooked. Pole literally turned my life upside down. I went from a McD’s diet and zero exercise to religiously training every day to nail tricks and progress. The best part though is the community. I’m learning that I can do anything I set my mind to, surrounded by strong women who enthusiastically celebrate each other’s milestone successes.
