Campaign’s Media Faces to Watch 2020 – Sadie Smith. Senior social media executive, Katch

Age: 26

Benjamin Kershaw, chief operating officer, Katch: Sadie has successfully worked on strategies and led campaigns for some of our key accounts including Dubai World Trade Centre. We’re particularly impressed by her proactive approach and her agility when handling dynamic events that require both creativity and decision-making skills on the ground. She is also a team player, being able to assist with training new joiners and working alongside different departments within the company seamlessly on integrated accounts. She’s not afraid of challenges and exploring new fields brought about by our diverse client portfolio, and has shown us on several occasions her ability to manage high-stress situations. Through all these, she ensures we deliver outstanding results to our clients that result in business retention and in general boosts to morale across Katch as a whole. She is a real pleasure to work with and all-round great employee.

Career highlights

I began my career as an intern at Weber Shandwick, where I had the opportunity to get my foot in the door of the industry and work on some exciting global accounts such as McDonalds, Netflix, MaxFactor and Nespresso. Since joining Katch International as a senior social media executive, I’ve managed a diverse range of accounts, coordinating dynamic and memorable projects, including the social media campaign for boyband BTS, in partnership with Live Nation, for the K-Pop superstars’ historic concert in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, I have led multiple social media projects for multiple DWTC events, such as Gulfood, World Art Dubai, Careers UAE and more. I am currently working on accounts for a variety of new and exciting F&B brands, helping to build their online communities through worthwhile engagement, establishing their online presence and equipping them with the essential tools to become top-of-mind brands

Guiding principles

Data is everything, change is constant and learning is always ongoing. The entire Katch team has been a constant source of inspiration and continues to remind me of the importance of being creatively agile and embracing new challenges.

Dream job

I would love to make a truly meaningful mark on the social media industry for the work that I’ve done, while continuously going the extra mile for clients – empowering their brands by taking creative risks that excite audiences and build real engagement. Something I love about social media is that trends and user behaviour are constantly changing, and I find it extremely motivating to be part of that journey. Therefore, I consistently evolve my own skillset to ensure I’m a step ahead in this fast-paced, rapidly evolving industry, as I keep an eye out for the next ‘dream project’.

Side hustle

Health and fitness. When it’s time to unplug from all things social, I enjoy finding creative ways to look after my health and fitness, while having fun, without the encountering the additional costs that Dubai can easily bring. A while back, I decided to get rid of my gym membership and began working out at the beach, which has been a great way of finding innovative methods to keep fit.
