Campaign’s Media Faces to Watch 2020 – Sham Maleh, Senior media manager, MediaCom MENA

Age: Younger than 30

Yves Massaad, client managing director, MediaCom: Sham is one of MediaCom’s rising stars. She joined MediaCom as a fresh grad six years ago, and through her passion and dedication went up the ranks to become a senior media manager. Her unique people skills have also allowed her to create a close bond with her clients. Sham has worked on telecom and automotive clients where she excelled, and today she looks after Cartier, the number one maison in the world. Working on Richemont’s Cartier requires a special set of skills where you need to have a perfect balance between science and art.

Career highlights

Awards won: Dubai Lynx 2015 Gold Award for the Best Use of Screens and Audio Category; Dubai Lynx 2015 Bronze Award in the Consumer Product category; Digital MENA Silver Award for the Best Integrated Digital Campaign.

I started my career six years ago working on VW, Audi and Sony Mobile. They will always have a special place in my heart as they’re the accounts I challenged myself the most on. All the awards won were on the 1st campaign I ever launched for Sony Mobile.

I shifted to the luxury category three years ago, where the media guidelines were completely different. I got Cartier to be the first luxury advertiser in Cinemas in KSA, and first luxury brand with an AR Snapchat lens. I’ve built a very strong relationship with my client and always make sure they are at the forefront of innovation, given this category services one of the most demanding audiences (high-net-worth individuals), where we need to give 100 per cent service at all times.

Guiding principles

Love what you do, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life. This was taught that by my first manager at MediaCom, in 2014.

Dream job

My dream job is to open my own restaurant, where I can be the chef.

Side hustle

Volunteering on weekends is something I frequently do. Whether it’s teaching English to less fortunate kids, or taking sheltered dogs for a walk, it’s a passion that keeps me going. Coming from Syria and seeing what my country is going through taught me to be grateful and kind whenever I can.
